List of world records in weightlifting
This list shows the current world records in weightlifting as well as the records that have since been deleted and a comparison of these. Records can currently be set in snatching, pushing and dueling, until 1972 this was possible in pushing, snapping, pushing and three-way combat.
Development of the records
The world records in weightlifting did not develop continuously. Due to several changes in weight classes, old world records were no longer recognized. Instead, the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) set so-called standards in 1998, based on the previous best performances that had to be surpassed.
However, because some of these burdens could no longer be met, the IMF abolished these standards in 2008 and retrospectively declared the highest burdens raised to be world records.
In addition, the introduction of the 1-kilogram rule at the beginning of 2005, which states that all records must be a multiple of 1 kg, required the correction of some values. So it may be that the record load was originally 0.5 kg higher and was rounded off with the new rule. Before the introduction of the 1-kilogram rule, the 2.5-kilogram rule applied, according to which only that part of the result achieved was included in the rating that was completely divisible by 2.5. With these two rules it is possible that world records are currently in existence that have never actually been set with these loads.
Men's records (as of October 31, 2018)
Women's records (as of October 31, 2018)
Old men's records
Due to the changes in weight classes in weightlifting, some records are no longer held as world records, even though their loads were higher than the current world records, often with the athlete's body weight being lower.
Note : Small differences sources (weightlifter, world record, date and place).
