history

There is evidence that the area was first settled in the Paleolithic . There are two burial mounds or tumuli in the community , both of which are called Leeberg : a larger one southwest of Niederhollabrunn ( Leeberg (Niederhollabrunn) ) and a smaller one north of Niederfellabrunn ( Leeberg (Niederfellabrunn) ), both from the Hallstatt period .

Niederhollabrunn is one of the oldest settlements and parishes on the left of the Danube. The spelling of the place was subject to constant changes. So you can also find Holainbrunen, Holerinbrunen, Hollarenbrunnen, Holarbrunen, Nidern Holaprun, Nieder-Holebrunn in documents .

The foundation of the parish dates back to around 1000. The parish church was dedicated to the deacon martyr St. Laurentius . After the path to the church on Michelberg , the oldest cult site in this region, had become too difficult for people, the St. Laurentikirche in the Thale gradually gained in importance. Who is the founder of the place and the parish is not known for sure. It is assumed that the foundation goes back either to the sovereign prince, to whom large areas in Lower Austria were given by Emperor Otto I after the battle on the Lechfeld in 955 and the repulsion of the Hungarians, or one of the noble von Hollarinbrunnen, who is on today's Kirchenberg owned a permanent house , could have been the founder. Last but not least, it would also be possible that the Bishop of Passau , who in 1014 also received property for the establishment of a pastoral care station in Stockerau , was the founder.

The first-rate source for the noble von Hollarinbrunnen family is the hall book of Klosterneuburg Abbey , in which some members are named in the course of the 12th century: 1113 Adalramus de Hollarenprunnen, 1160 Sighard (as a witness to a donation from Duke Heinrich II. Jasomirgott ) and 1171 Siglohus and his brother Otto de Hollarbrunne. Then this sex should soon be extinct again.

The Niederhollabrunn parish was first mentioned in a document in 1135 as Margrave Leopold III. returned the tithing of 13 parishes to Bishop Reginmar von Passau .

After the family of the "nobles of Hollarinbrunnen", the gentlemen of Gerloß became owners of Niederhollabrunn. After the Gerloß family, the place came to the diocese of Passau . It is still unclear whether the place came to the diocese through purchase, exchange or donation. In 1222, Bishop Gebhard von Passau was temporarily forced to give the village to Duke Leopold VI. to be transferred as a fief to pay off a residual debt. In 1241 Duke Friedrich II also confirmed the "Parish Holabrunn" as a Passau fief. In 1253 the parish passed from the property of the bishop to that of his cathedral chapter . This was confirmed by King Rudolf I in 1277 . Even before that, King Ottokar of Bohemia should have tacitly waived the patronage rights that had previously been held as a fief . Later, the Pope solemnly incorported the parish dean of Passau. He remained there until the abbey was closed.

In 1258 the monastery of Klosterneuburg in Niederhollabrunn owned it, which can be found in the oldest preserved land register in Klosterneuburg. In 1177–1185, Duke Leopold V gave the children of Gerung von Niederhollabrunn to the monastery. The Heiligenkreuz had possession, according to a Urbar from the late 13th century.

In 1586 Melchior Khlesl appropriated the parish and was “installed and invested” by the cathedral dean of Passau, Anton Fabricius. He had the inventory handed over to the cathedral dean. Archduke Ernst ordered Khlesel in 1589 not to extend the Robot over 14 days. Since Khlesl did not want to do without the parish Niederhollabrunn on the occasion of his appointment as Bishop of Vienna in 1598 , there was a dispute "with rude words" between him and the cathedral dean of Passau, Count Karl von Lamberg .

The municipal coat of arms is based on the old market coat of arms of Niederfellabrunn and was awarded in 1985 together with the flag (colors: green, white, blue).
