The Orange Blossom Special (OBS for short) is a three-day music festival that has existed since 1997 and takes place every year at Whitsun in Beverungen , East Westphalia . The organizer is the music label Glitterhouse Records , whose headquarters are also the venue. The name of the festival is derived from Johnny Cash 's song of the same name, Orange Blossom Special .

history

The festival originally emerged from a barbecue party with live music, which was intended for the customers of the affiliated mail order distributor of Glitterhouse Records . In the years that followed, it developed into a multi-day festival that has become known for its cozy and familiar atmosphere. For years, the number of spectators was deliberately limited to the capacity of the large garden behind the Wilhelminian style villa, which is home to the Glitterhouse company , which served as a venue for 1,800 to 2,000 visitors. After the site was expanded, there was room for 3400 visitors in 2019. They can camp right on the banks of the Weser and can use the showers in the local outdoor pool, in the neighboring tennis club and in the ice rink. The festival is usually sold out well in advance and attracts a very heterogeneous audience in terms of age.

Up to 25 national and international bands appear on one stage over three days, moderated by the Glitterhouse bosses Rembert Stiewe and Reinhard Holstein. The musical focus is on indie rock , singer-songwriter , rock , folk and world . The best known bands that appeared on the Orange Blossom Special stage include Broken Social Scene , Madrugada , Gisbert zu Knyphausen , Get Well Soon and 16 Horsepower .

The ten-year anniversary of the festival in 2006 was honored by the WDR Rockpalast with its own broadcast. For its fifteenth anniversary in 2011, the Rockpalast was once again a guest in Beverungen to produce a two and a half hour summary of the festival. In 2012 the WDR Rockpalast filmed acoustic sessions of the artists who performed at the festival.
