Rubén Umpiérrez (born October 25, 1956 in Canelones ) is a former Uruguayan - French football player and coach.
Player career
society
The 1.75 meter tall midfielder "Pico" Umpiérrez initially played for San Ramon. The first station of his professional career was then the Club Atlético Peñarol , where he was in the squad in the Primera División in the 1975 season. His club won the Uruguayan Championship that season. Umpiérrez was not listed as a member of the tribe that year. He later played from 1977 to 1978 at Club Atlético Cerro , for whom he scored eleven goals in 36 top division games ( 1977 : 20 games / 5 goals; 1978 : 16/6). In 1978 he moved to France. He stayed there until the end of his career and in 1985 also took French citizenship. During this career phase, his son Ruben Diego was born in 1982. In France, AS Nancy was his employer from the 1978/79 season up to and including the 1984/85 season . In 230 league appearances according to the club, he scored 62 goals for the club, other sources have 231 games for him with his participation. In addition, he came nine times in the B-team and scored seven goals. He was awarded the Étoile d'Or last season with the Lorraine region . From the 1985/86 season he continued his career at Racing Club Paris until 1987 . During this time, for example, Pierre Littbarski was one of his teammates in 1986/87 . In the first two seasons he ran in 66 league games (seven goals). After being renamed Matra Racing Paris, he also spent the seasons 1987/88 and 1988/89 at the French capital club and was used 52 times (six goals) in Ligue 1 . With the Parisians he also came in 1986/87 and 1988/89 three times (no goal) in the B-team. From 1989 to 1991 a career station at US Créteil followed . At the club from the Val-de-Marne department , he completed 64 games in Division 2 and scored seven times in the opposing goal. In 1991/92 he played 13 games (two goals) in Division 3 as part of a commitment at Paris FC .
National team
Umpiérrez was part of the Uruguayan U-20 national team , which took part in the Junior South American Championship in Peru in 1975 and won the title. During the course of the tournament, coach Walter Brienza was used four times and scored the Uruguayan goal and thus his only tournament goal in the 1-1 final (3-1 after penalties for Uruguay). He was also part of the Uruguayan squad at the 1975 Pan American Games . Uruguay was eliminated there in the preliminary round . At least in the 1-1 draw on October 13, 1975 against Cuba, he was used in the tournament. He was also a member of Uruguay's senior team , for which he played on May 24, 1978 in the 0-0 draw in the friendly international match against Spain at the Estadio Centenario , when he was substituted on in the 74th minute by coach Hugo Bagnulo for Venancio Ramos .

Coaching
During the 1989/90 season he temporarily took over at his club US Créteil parallel to his playing in October 1989 as an interim coach, which he exercised together with Fahti Chebel . Later he also trained the department selection of Canelones . In the Clausura 2014 he was assistant coach at Club Atlético Cerro. At the beginning of February 2015, he took over the coaching position at Carrasco del Sauce.

Umpiérrez is the uncle of soccer referee Claudia Umpiérrez . On May 29, 2013, he and other Uruguayan football players previously active in France were honored by Ambassador Jean-Christophe Potton in the run-up to the "Copa Montevideo Capital Iberoamericana de la Cultura" at a reception in the French embassy .
