The county is located almost in the extreme south of Mississippi, about 25 miles from the Gulf of Mexico and has an area of ​​1160 square kilometers, of which 7 square kilometers are water. It borders on the following counties:

history

Stone County was formed on April 3, 1916 from parts of Harrison County. It was named after the John Marshall Stone (1830-1900), a governor of Mississippi (1876-1882, 1890-1896).
