The University of Waterloo ( UW ) is a Canadian public research university in the city of Waterloo , about 100 km west of Toronto . The university was founded in 1957. In 2010 it had 26,451 undergraduate and 3,505 graduate students and 1,047 faculty.
The University of Waterloo is particularly well-known for its co-op program, a type of extra- occupational study program, and for its mathematics and engineering subjects.

Cooperations
Exchange programs exist with the University of Mannheim , the Otto Friedrich University of Bamberg and the Technical University of Hamburg-Harburg , among others . The Master’s program “ Intercultural German Studies (Joint Degree)” is offered jointly with the University of Mannheim . The oldest exchange program in the Faculty of Engineering is maintained at the TU Braunschweig .
As part of the CANEU.Coop program, European students have been coming to Waterloo since 2010 and, in return, receive Canadian interns in their respective home countries. The Baden-Württemberg Cooperative State University enables Canadian interns to work with their German exchange partners in their training company.
