The radical "pitcher" takes only in the traditional characters - list of traditional radicals consisting of 214 radicals 121. position. It can be found in a completely different place in modern abbreviation dictionaries.
The character developed from the image of a bottle gourd . Its shapes are different, some have narrow necks, others are bulbous and constricted in the middle.
The single character 缶 means amphora-shaped vessel with a small opening and a large belly. Therefore, the signs formed with it are also located in the meaning field of earthen vessels, such as 缸 (gang = clay vessel), 罂 (= vase), 罐 (= box), 缺 (jue = lacking; originally: broken vessel), 罅 (= crack) , 窑 (= furnace; composed of 穴 (cave and the earthen vessel 缶)), 陶 (tao = ceramic). 摇 (yao = to shake) and 谣 (= ballad) originally also referred to earthen vessels and therefore contain 缶 (fu).
