90210 is an American television series that was produced from 2008 to 2013 for the US broadcaster The CW . It is the second offshoot of the Beverly Hills series , 90210 , after Melrose Place , which ran on Fox in the 1990s with great success .

action

The focus of the series is the Wilson family with the children Annie and Dixon. The Wilsons move from Kansas to Beverly Hills , Los Angeles because their father Harry wants to take care of his mother, who has a drinking problem. Annie and Dixon go to the fictional West Beverly Hills High School, where Harry becomes director, which turns out to be not so easy for Annie and Dixon.

First season

On the first day of school, Annie meets her summer acquaintance from two years ago, Ethan, again - while she is practicing oral sex . Annie meets Naomi, Ethan's girlfriend, at school. After a brief announcement, she invites Annie to her 16th birthday. Naomi is betrayed when Annie tells her brother about the matter. When this is not accepted in his lacrosse team, in which Ethan also plays, he breaks the promise of secrecy he had made and notifies Naomi via SMS. Annie slowly becomes friends with Erin “Silver”, who initially made fun of the “farmer girl from Kansas” on her blog. The fact that Annie made it to the school musical performance at the first audition displeases the school's previous acting talent, Adrianna. Naomi's mother confronts Annie's father with the news that they have a son from their youth. When Naomi gets involved with George, a teammate of Ethan's, he breaks up with her. Annie meets the richest boy in school, Ty. After getting permission from her mother for a weekday date, the two of them don't eat in Los Angeles, but instead take a flight to San Francisco in a private jet and meet later. Since Annie forgets to bring her grandmother back a PC from the repair, the always drunk Tabitha sets out on her own and is involved in an accident. She gets away with it without major wounds, but learns that her granddaughter was in San Francisco.

Because Adrianna is on drugs, she is not allowed to attend the musical, and Annie gets her role. Angry about this, Adrianna forges a plan to separate Ty and Annie. When this worked, Annie and Ethan fall in love, but they have to hide their love because Naomi has asked Annie not to do anything with Ethan. When Naomi finds out, however, she also forges a plan of revenge and invites Annie's ex-boyfriend from Kansas, who still has feelings for her. Annie makes it clear to Jason that she no longer has feelings for him and that she is now with Ethan. Naomi then lets him know about her plan to ruin Annie's birthday. When Annie and Naomi argue in front of Annie's grandmother's house, the son, Sean, who has been given up for adoption, suddenly appears from Naomi's mother and Annie's father, who turns out to be a cheat. After Adrianna goes through rehab, she learns she is pregnant from Ty, but cannot abort the child because she is already too far. Navid takes good care of Adrianna during this time, but does not know that the child is Ty's. In between, the two come up with the idea of getting married. Annie and Ethan split up, after which Naomi and Annie get along very well again.

Silver has to give a presentation for the school and decides to add a film to it. In order to show the film, she rents a cinema. It turns out to be a sex movie made by Dixon and her. Then Dixon separates from her and she completely freaks out. It turns out that the breakup in Silver is deeply depressed and after she puts all the blame on her teacher Matthews, who thinks he wanted, she made the film and exposed herself to everyone. She figured this was because of Matthews' revenge for posting about him on her blog, which she wrote after he was expelled from school for his relationship with his alleged student, and by insulting him badly. The depression of Silver reminds Dixon strongly of his past, since his birth mother is also manically depressed. He decides to go to his mother's house with Annie to apologize to her. But when they get there, Dixon doesn't dare to go to her and asks Annie to talk to her. She clears up the whole thing from the past and promises Dixon to come back next time. Silver is very heavily mothered by her sister Kelly after her stay in the depression clinic and is hardly allowed to make her own decisions. However, Dixon still stands by her and stays with her. She goes to a religious school, which she leaves as soon as possible and returns to West Beverly.

A new student arrives in class, Liam. Naomi is instantly blown away by him and tries to get closer to him. He takes her to an illegal street race, where she realizes that he likes her too when he protects her from a pushy man. He kisses her that evening. Ethan and Liam get to know each other better on a project that summer when Liam pretends to be a hard drug user. He takes him into the woods and just gives him tea instead, but Ethan thinks he's high. That night Liam sleeps with Naomi in the forest. After much back and forth, Liam decides to confide in Naomi completely, and Naomi tells her sister Jen everything in confidence. Adrianna and Navid want to keep the child. However, his parents don't want to care when they learn it's not from Navid. Adrianna can no longer lie to Navid and tells him that the child is Ty's. After a long discussion and a lot of back and forth, the two decide not to get married and to give the child up for adoption.

The long-awaited prom is near. Naomi and a friend plan an after-ball party with alcohol, drugs, etc. Harry learns of the plans and stops the party before it starts. All students think Annie said something to her father. Only her friends stick with her. Naomi plans the party at her house, much to the detriment of her sister. At the ball, Adrianna goes into labor and goes to the hospital with Navid, Naomi, and Annie's parents. She has a girl who she initially doesn't want to see. In a dream she meets Brenda Walsh, her acting teacher at the time, and so she decides to see her child anyway. But then the adoptive parents come and Adrianna has to hand over her child. Navid comforts her.

At the afterball party, Naomi's sister wants to take revenge on her for the fact that the house is full, pretends to be Naomi's neighbor and tells Liam about Naomi, who allegedly passed on all of his secrets. Liam and Jen sleep together and Naomi comes into the room just as Liam gets dressed again. She finds Annie's jacket on the floor and thinks Annie slept with him. She throws her out of her house and the other students are still angry because she allegedly betrayed the party. Naomi is crying at her sister's house. Annie leaves the party furiously, taking a bottle of alcohol with her. Ethan fell in love with Silver and has to admit it to Dixon. He's mad and Ethan leaves the party. Silver follows him and he kisses her. The first season ends with Annie driving away from the party in her car. It is uncertain whether she has already had any of the alcohol. She just looks at the bottle more often. She overlooks a man who remains injured on the road while Annie is hit and miss. The car that was following Annie all the time stops at the scene of the accident and you can see a sticker of West Beverly High.

Second season

Three months after the afterball party at Naomi's house, the summer class - which Dixon, Silver and Naomi were sentenced to because of Annie's phone call to the police - is over. Annie distanced herself greatly from the others during the summer vacation. When a nude photo of her appears, even Dixon has a hard time sticking with her. Naomi confesses to Adrianna and Silver that she still has feelings for Liam. When school starts again, Liam tries to talk to Naomi and explains that he and Annie have not slept together. Naomi then wants to know who he slept with. However, he doesn't tell her because it was her sister Jen and Liam doesn't want to hurt her any more.

In addition, an old friend of Adrianna's comes to West Beverly, Teddy Montgomery, with whom she first met. Navid is temporarily jealous of him because of this. Meanwhile, Adrianna says goodbye to acting. Dixon meets a girl named Sasha. He lets her believe he is in the music business and of her age. She later learns that he lied and doesn't want to see him anymore. After some back and forth, they come back together. When Dixon tries to break up with her, Sasha confesses that he is pregnant with her. He tells his parents about it, and Debbie notices that Sasha is just faking the pregnancy and warns them to stay away from Dixon. As a result, Sasha calls Dixon claiming that she miscarried and doesn't want to see him anymore. In the end, however, his parents tell him the truth, so Dixon can close with Sasha. In the meantime, Annie gets to know her classmate Jasper Herman better and ends up dating him. This is the nephew of the homeless man Annie ran over. Navid sees Adrianna buying drugs from Jasper and claims he is a drug dealer. The rumor eventually reaches Annie's parents and they forbid her to see him. As a result, Jasper Navid pushes down the stairs at school. Navid gets away with a few broken bones, but at first cannot identify the culprit, but eventually discovers that it was Jasper.

West Beverly High has opened a surf team that includes Dixon, Teddy and Liam, among others. A new member is Ivy Sullivan, a well-known surfer. Over time, Ivy falls in love with Liam. Silver and Kelly learn that their mother has cancer and only three months to live. Silver then moves back in with her mother to take care of her. Shortly after Kelly has reconciled with her mother, she dies. While Ryan and Jen become a couple, Debbie and Harry's marriage is in turmoil as he spends more time with Kelly than with her. Naomi finally learns that Jen and not Annie slept with Liam. On a horse race, Liam, Teddy, Ivy and Dixon finally managed to uncover Jens machinations. So it comes to the separation between Jen and Ryan and Naomi also closes with her, who in the meantime got back together with Liam.

The winter ball is just around the corner. Teddy wants to go with Silver because he fell in love with her, but she doesn't want to go with him. Finally, Teddy indirectly confesses his love to her, but she does not reciprocate and later she and Dixon kiss. Annie and Jasper also go to the ball, and Annie learns from the others that the rumor that Jasper is a drug dealer is true. He now confesses to Annie that he is a drug dealer and that Navid pushed down the stairs. Annie then wants him to stay away from her. However, Annie points out that she has also made mistakes; after all, she ran over Jasper's uncle.

Annie broke up with Jasper, but Jasper does not want to accept the breakup and successfully blackmailed Annie with the fact that he will report her to the police if she does not return to him. After a few days, however, she breaks the deal because he asks her to have sex with him. She writes a text document on her laptop in which she confesses what she has done. But when Jasper makes it clear to her that he won't report her to the police because he loves her too much, Annie deletes the document with relief and doesn't notice that it has been saved. Because he has lost Annie, Jasper develops into a stalker and wants to kill himself, but he can't. As a result, he is admitted to a mental hospital. As a result, Annie befriends Silver, Naomi and Adrianna again.

Dixon and Ivy begin a fake relationship, but gradually develop feelings for each other. Adrianna gets together with her classmate Gia, who works at the Blaze . Naomi is kicked out of the blaze - which she applied to for higher chances of admission to California University - after misbehaving towards Mr. Cannon. So Naomi now wants to do everything possible to get back inside, but Mr. Cannon refuses to speak to him, so she claims that he has sexually molested her. At a hearing, she confesses that she lied. But he forgives her again a short time later. In the meantime, Liam receives a visit from his birth father, who has just been released from prison. He takes the money he got from Liam and disappears from town.

Jen and her husband Olivier also return to Beverly Hills with a surprise; they bought the beach club. However, the two get divorced and Jen rakes in $ 16 million. She buys Naomi's house and cancels her credit cards. Naomi wants to get rid of Jen once and for all and follows her to the hospital, where she learns that Jen is pregnant. Jasper has been released from the hospital and he and Annie forgive each other. Meanwhile, Debbie and Harry want to get a divorce. Dixon and Ivy are now starting a real relationship. After much back and forth, Silver and Teddy start a relationship. But when Teddy loses a tennis game and is no longer in first place, Silver separates from him because his father blames her for it. Silver and Dixon get drunk on Adrianna's first solo appearance, causing them to kiss. Immediately afterwards, however, they decide to forget about it.

In the season finale, Liam ends the relationship with Naomi. Adrianna has signed a contract with the music producer Laurel Cooper - Ivy's mother - and thus gets the chance to go on a year-long tour with the singer Javier, who loves her. Naomi finds a paternity test for the unborn child in Jen's pocket: Ryan is the father. He also wants to take care of the child and raise it, but Jen rejects him. Navid and Adrianna admit that they still feel for each other and finally, just like Silver and Teddy, come together. Liam has finished building his boat and is sailing through the harbor with Annie. Annie eventually tells Liam that she was the one who ran over Joe Herman. Jasper watches them and burns Liam's boat after seeing Annie in Liam's arms. Liam sees this and starts hitting Jasper until all you can hear is sirens. Naomi's car won't start at school. When she sees the lights are still on in the school, she goes in and runs into Mr. Cannon. Meanwhile, Ryan picks up his car at the school parking lot and sees Mr. Cannon and Naomi as the former is lowering the shutters. The two talk for a while. But then he begins to approach Naomi and even kisses her. She tries to escape, but he stops her, whereupon he rapes her.

Dixon and Annie take him back in, and when Annie takes care of him, he confesses his love to her. Annie reciprocates and they sleep together. production

On March 13, 2008, The Hollywood Reporter announced that an offshoot of the Beverly Hills series , 90210 , directed by former producer of Veronica Mars , Rob Thomas , was in development. It was also published that the creator of the original series, Darren Star , would not work on the project. In March, the broadcaster The CW started the castings for the production.

Since Rob Thomas was hired for a drama series on the broadcaster ABC , he handed over the management of the production on April 15, 2008 Jeff Judah and Gabe Sachs. In June 2008 the broadcaster The CW finally ordered 13 episodes of the series and introduced the first members of the cast in the program planning for autumn 2008. In addition, over the course of the following summer, it became known that the two actors Jennie Garth and Shannen Doherty , already known from Beverly Hills, 90210 , would appear in guest roles.

In September 2008, the number of episodes ordered was increased to 22 episodes for the first season. A month later, two more were commissioned. 90210 first aired on September 2, 2008 on Canadian television station Global and, after a delay, also in the US on network television station The CW. At The CW in the US, the pilot was followed by 4.9 million viewers.

In March 2013, it was announced that the series would end with the season five finale.

Germany

In Germany, the ProSiebenSat.1 Media broadcasting group has secured the rights. From April 18 to August 15, 2009, ProSieben showed 18 episodes of the first season in German for the first time. The broadcast was discontinued due to a lack of success and it was no longer continued on ProSieben for this reason.

After ProSieben ended the broadcast of the first season prematurely, the self-proclaimed women's channel sixx , which also belongs to the ProSiebenSat.1 Media group, broadcast the first season between May 10 and September 27, 2010. The second season was shown from January 10 to June 27, 2011 on sixx. The third season could be seen from November 28, 2011 to April 16, 2012 on sixx, while the fourth season was broadcast from September 3, 2012. The fifth season aired sixx between March 18 and September 2, 2013.

Austria

In Austria, ORF eins broadcast the first season from April 25 to October 24, 2009. Because ProSieben canceled the series, the station showed the last six episodes in German for the first time. The second season could be seen from June 18, 2011 on ORF one. The third season was broadcast from March 23 to October 12, 2013 on ORF eins. The fourth season broadcast ORF Eins from March 15, 2014 and the fifth season broadcast the station from February 7 to October 3, 2015.
