Baden is the southernmost and with around 15,906 hectares of vineyards and an average must yield of 1.1 million hectoliters, the third largest wine-growing area in Germany . It is the only German wine-growing region that belongs to the European Union's wine-growing zone B , as do neighboring Alsace , Champagne and the Loire Valley , all of which are in France .

Grape varieties
White wine
For white wine , the grape varieties Grauburgunder (Ruländer), Müller-Thurgau , Bacchus , Gutedel , Kerner , or Riesling , Scheurebe , Sauvignon Blanc , Muskateller , Nobling , Auxerrois and Pinot Blanc , Silvaner , Gewürztraminer are cultivated .
In 2016, the white wine varieties Chenin Blanc , Muscaris and Souvignier gris were also approved for the specific Baden cultivation area .
red wine
Mainly Pinot Noir , Regent , Black Riesling and Dornfelder are grown for red wine .
In 2016, the red wine varieties Frühburgunder , Lagrein , Tempranillo and Zweigelt were also approved for the specific Baden cultivation area .
Cuvée / blend
Badisch Rotgold , sometimes also called Badischer Rotling , is not a grape variety, but a blend of at least 51% grapes of the white grape variety Grauer Burgunder with a maximum of 49% grapes of the red grape variety Pinot Noir.
