The diocese of Grenoble-Vienne ( Latin Dioecesis Gratianopolitana-Viennensis Allobrogum , French Diocèse de Grenoble-Vienne ) is a Roman Catholic diocese in France . It now includes the Isère department .
history
The diocese was established in the 4th century; the first bishop known by name was a certain Domninus who attended the Synod of Aquileia in 381 . Around the middle of the 5th century it was incorporated into the ecclesiastical province of Vienne .
In 1779 parts of the diocese were ceded to the newly founded diocese of Chambéry . In the course of the restructuring in France as a result of the French Revolution , the Concordat of 1801 expanded to include the area of the former diocese of Die and parts of the dissolved diocese of Gap and the archdiocese of Vienne. In 1822 the diocese of Gap was re-established, so that the territory of the diocese of Grenoble has since covered that of the Isère department.
