location
Bourg is located about 22 kilometers north of Bordeaux in the historic province of Angoumois in the cultural landscape of the Charente on the estuary of the Gironde and the arm of the Dordogne , into which the Moron flows here. Bourg is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Samonac in the north and northwest, Lansac in the north, Tauriac in the east and northeast, Prignac-et-Marcamps in the east and southeast, Ambès in the south and Saint-Seurin-de-Bourg in the west.
The former route nationale 669 (today's D669) runs through the municipality .
history
In addition to archaeological sites that prove Gallo-Roman settlement, the city played a special role in the Anglo-French disputes in the 13th and 14th centuries. It was initially part of English-dominated Aquitaine, but the French occupied the city in 1224. As early as 1225 the English managed to relieve the city. In 1294, French troops conquered Gascony again. Bourg could initially be held by the English and then remained contested.
