Brand (family name)
Brand is a German family name . It is one of the 200 most common family names in Germany. Like the family names Brandt and Brant , it is derived from the first names Hildebrand or Hadebrand. These names used to be common in northern Germany. From there the name Brand found its way into several regions of Germany. In southern Germany, the spelling Brandl or Brantl often prevailed. In addition to being interpreted as a patronymic , brand is sometimes also a name of origin or residence. B. derives from a fire caused by slash and burn . Early occurrences of the name have been handed down from Seinsheim (1343) and Frankfurt (1493).
