Coordinates: 37 ° 48 ' S , 144 ° 54' O Maribyrnong City is a local government area (LGA) in the Australian state of Victoria . Maribyrnong belongs to the metropolis Melbourne , the capital of Victoria. The area is 31 km² and has about 82,000 inhabitants.
Maribyrnong borders Melbourne City Center to the east and comprises nine neighborhoods: Braybrook, Footscray, Kingsville, Maidstone, Maribyrnong, Seddon, Tottenham, West Footscray and Yarraville. The City Council is located in Footscray in the east of the LGA.
The city is densely populated and culturally diverse: The inhabitants come from 135 nations and 40% were born abroad. Over ten percent of all residents come from Vietnam. There is a lot of industry in the area, including oil and chemicals.
The Victoria University has two campuses in Maribyrnong, including the main campus of the University Footscray Park.
The Highpoint Shopping Center in Maidstone the third largest in Melbourne and the fifth largest in Australia.

The Maribyrnong City Council has seven members who are elected by the residents of the seven wards. These seven districts (Bluestone, Ironbark, River, Saltwater, Sheoak, Stoney Creek and Wattle) are determined independently of the districts. The mayor of the council is also recruited from among the councilors.
