geography
Contes is located on the Paillon de Contes river and is surrounded by the neighboring municipalities of Coaraze in the north, Berre-les-Alpes in the northeast, Blausasc in the east and southeast, Cantaron in the south, Châteauneuf-Villevieille in the west and Bendejun in the northwest.

Under Roman rule the place was called Cuntinus vicus.
