Until the Middle Ages
As almost everywhere in Asturias, finds from the Stone Age confirm the early settlement of the region. Several barrows can still be seen today.
The Romans also had several forts here with an appropriate infrastructure, which connected neighboring Ibias with its gold mines. There are still bridges that are still in use today.
Til today
The place is mentioned in a few medieval sources. It appears for the first time in 912 in a document from the monastery of Santiago de Degaña. However, the authenticity is doubted in professional circles.
In the 13th century, Degaña belonged to the Kingdom of León . Relations have continued to this day. The Quiñones and Queipo families were the dominant noble houses of the region until the beginning of the 19th century, which can still be seen in today's coat of arms.
