Oestrich is the statistical district 94 and at the same time a district in the north-west of the urban city of Dortmund . It belongs to the Mengede district .
Today's Dortmund district of Oestrich was first mentioned in documents in 1379 as Oystrik or Osterwyk. The district, which today has grown together with the Mengede district, was a purely agricultural area until the construction of the Adolf von Hansemann colliery in the middle of the 19th century and later the Gustav mine.
On October 27, 1917, Östrich - as it was spelled at the time - was incorporated into Mengede and on April 1, 1928, it was finally incorporated into the city of Dortmund together with Mengede.

Oestrich is located directly on the 45 and 42 motorways . There is also an S-Bahn station called Dortmund-Nette / Oestrich on line S 2 in the direction of Dortmund Hauptbahnhof and Dortmund-Mengede. A very mixed development characterizes the district: smaller apartment buildings and colliery houses predominate. There are also individual high-rises on the edge of the town center. There are also newer single-family houses and an industrial park on the southern outskirts.
