Location of Oestrich in Dortmund

Oestrich is the statistical district 94 and at the same time a district in the north-west of the urban city of Dortmund . It belongs to the Mengede district .

Today's Dortmund district of Oestrich was first mentioned in documents in 1379 as Oystrik or Osterwyk. The district, which today has grown together with the Mengede district, was a purely agricultural area until the construction of the Adolf von Hansemann colliery in the middle of the 19th century and later the Gustav mine.

On October 27, 1917, Östrich - as it was spelled at the time - was incorporated into Mengede and on April 1, 1928, it was finally incorporated into the city of Dortmund together with Mengede.
