Course of the lap

Hamburger SV wins the championship again with 22: 0 opening points, but loses playmaker Klaus Stürmer to FC Zurich . VfV Hildesheim - with the dangerous indoor trio Dieter Thun , Heiner Klose, Manfred Hufgard - creates 29: 1 points in the Friedrich-Ebert-Stadion at home - including the 3-0 win in front of 26,000 spectators on November 5, 1961 against HSV - and surprisingly ranks third behind vice Werder Bremen. Hannover 96, on the other hand, can only defeat Eintracht Nordhorn in their home games and are in 13th place. The promoted Bremer SV - with Arthur Dobat - and Eintracht Nordhorn - Otto Geisert scored 20 of the 42 Nordhorn goals - are making their way back to the amateur camp.

The list of goalscorers is led by Uwe Seeler (28), ahead of Gerd Koll and Peter Osterhoff with 27 goals each. He is followed Jürgen Moll with 26 and Dieter Meyer with 24 goals.

    Course of the lap

From the start, the season was dominated by the duel between Schalke - Willi Schulz , Willi Koslowski , Hans Nowak , Bernhard Klodt - and Cologne - Karl-Heinz Schnellinger , Fritz Pott , Leo Wilden , Karl-Heinz Thielen , Hans Schäfer - even if Newcomers SW Essen ( Heinz Steinmann , Horst Trimhold , Theo Klöckner , Manfred Rummel ), RW Oberhausen ( Helmut Traska , Jürgen Sundermann , Hans Siemensmeyer , Karl-Heinz Feldkamp ) and Münster ( Klaus Bockisch , Herbert Eiteljörge , Hermann Lulka , Manfred Pohlschmidt ) themselves could raise legitimate hopes for second place at times. The relegation battle was also decided early, because after the first half series, old champions Duisburger SV ( Manfred Wacker , Wilfried Kohlars ) were seven points behind and SV Sodingen ( Werner Moldovan , Hans Lipka ) six points.

The list of goalscorers was headed by Manfred Rummel with 26 goals ahead of Karl-Heinz Thielen with 25 goals. Jürgen Schütz and Willi Bergstein followed with 20 goals each .

    Course of the lap

With the outstanding goalscorer Rudi Dörrenbächer - with 37 goals he led the list of goalscorers in the southwest - and the goal difference of 102-29, Borussia Neunkirchen won the championship for the first time ahead of FK Pirmasens and 1. FC Saarbrücken. With the 29 goals conceded, the master also provided the best defense under Alfred Preissler's coaching . The relegation of the two promoted Oppau and VfR Kaiserslautern was perceived as sensational. For this, Phönix Ludwigshafen and Eintracht Trier, two long-time league clubs, had to leave the class.

After Dörrenbächer, Reinhold Straus followed with 27, Rolf Fritzsche (24), Klaus Matischak (23) and Heinz Vollmar with 20 goals.

    south

    Course of the lap

The German champions of the previous year, 1. FC Nürnberg with coach Herbert Widmayer , prevailed again in the south and won the championship with the better goal quotient before Eintracht Frankfurt tied on points. On the last day of the match Frankfurt - coach Paul Oßwald - won 2-1 goals against the Franks, but it was only enough for the runner-up. The "Club" also represented German football in the European Champions' Cup this year . He prevailed against Drumcondra Dublin and Fenerbahce Istanbul and failed after a 3-1 home win at defending champions Benfica Lisbon with a 6-0 defeat - goalscorers were José Águas , Mário Coluna , Eusébio (2) and José Augusto (2) - in Lisbon. In the relegation battle, the two promoted Augsburgers BC and Swabia held their own, while FSV Frankfurt and SV 07 Waldhof had to make their way to the 2nd League South.

Lothar Schämer (26) won the top scorer's crown with one goal ahead of Rudolf Brunnenmeier . It was followed by Rainer Ohlhauser (23) and Siegfried Gast with 21 goals.

    Contract League Berlin

    Course of the lap

In Berlin, the round was played in a 10-player league in three rounds of nine games each. On the first game day, August 13, 1961, Tasmania opened 1900 with a 2-0 away win at Union 06, while Hertha BSC and Tennis Borussia each only managed a goalless draw at Wacker 04 and BFC Südring. Tasmania and Hertha parted 0-0 on September 23 in the first encounter in front of 25,000 spectators. On matchday 15, Tas won the top game with 1-0 goals and finally decided the championship with a 2-1 win on March 10, 1962 in front of 20,000 spectators against Hertha BSC. The first round defeat conceded Tasmania on the 17th match day at Spandauer SV, the second defeat on March 31, 1962, the champions caught in the meaningless catch-up game against BFC Südring.

The main eleven of Tasmania 1900 included:

    Hans-Joachim Posinski (goalkeeper), Hans-Jürgen Bäsler , Horst Talaszus , Hans-Günter Becker , Eckhardt Peschke , Wolfgang Neumann , Peter Engler , Wolfgang Rosenfeldt , Helmut Fiebach .

For the runner-up Hertha BSC played:

Wolfgang Tillich (goalkeeper), Hans-Günter Schimmöller , Rudolf Zeiser , Günter Schüler , Helmut Faeder , Klaus Heuer , Lutz Steinert , Hans-Joachim Altendorff .

At Tennis Borussia, Hans Eder and Wolfgang Seeger (he took the top scorer's crown with 18 goals) stood out, at Spandau the veteran Reinhard Knöfel still worked and at Zehlendorf the talented striker Michael Krampitz drew attention with 14 goals.
