The King County is a county in the US state of Washington . At the 2010 census , the county had 1,931,249 residents and a population density of 350.7 people per square kilometer. The county seat is in Seattle .

The King County is located in the center of the Seattle metropolitan area .

King County is located in west central Washington, between Puget Sound and the Cascade Range . The county covers an area of ​​5,974 square kilometers, of which 5,506 square kilometers are land and 467 km² (7.82%) are water.

history

The county was formed on December 22, 1852 from former parts of Thurston County. It was named after William R. King (1786-1853), the 13th Vice President of the USA (1853).

In World War II, County produced the King, the Boeing Plant 2 many bombers.

On February 24, 1986, the president was replaced by civil rights activist Martin Luther King (1929–1968) as the namesake through a referendum.
