Expansion planning

There are numerous proposals and plans for expanding the long-distance transport network in Thuringia.

In the Federal Transport Infrastructure Plan 2030 , the B 87n is classified as an approximately 33 km long expressway through the Rhön from Meiningen to Tann as a “further requirement”.

In addition, there are long-term plans to expand the B 19 between Barchfeld (Bad Salzungen) and Meiningen to four lanes. The same is also being considered for the B 247 between Mühlhausen and Bad Langensalza.

The construction work on the extension of the B 62 from Barchfeld via Schmalkalden to the A 71 junction Suhl / Zella-Mehlis is currently advanced .
