In the cities of Wülfrath , Aldenhoven , Krefeld , Kempen and Siegburg as well as in the districts of Soest and Osterholz (regardless of the cities in the district), a corresponding application to declare a climate emergency was rejected.
A signature campaign initiated by Extinction Rebellion activists has been running on Change.org since May 3, 2019 , with which the members of the German Bundestag and the federal government are to be called on to declare a climate emergency. The number of drawings on this petition passed the 50,000 mark on the evening of May 10th. The Bundestag faction Die Linke, on the initiative of its energy and climate policy spokesman Lorenz Gösta Beutin, submitted a motion to the Bundestag for a roll-call vote in parliament on May 14, 2019 , in which it called for "recognition of the climate emergency". Climate protection is "to be given priority in political decisions". In order to achieve the climate goals of the Paris Agreement, a corresponding climate protection law must also be adopted as an immediate measure. In the roll-call vote, in addition to the parliamentary groups of the Greens and the Left, who voted unanimously for the proposal, individual members of the FDP and the non-attached member of parliament Marco Bülow also approved the proposal. The parliamentary groups of the CDU / CSU, SPD and AfD voted unanimously against it.
