Marines is a French commune with 3481 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Val-d'Oise department of the Île-de-France region . The city belongs to the Pontoise arrondissement of the canton of Pontoise . The inhabitants call themselves Marinois or Marinoises .

geography

The municipality of Marines is 40 kilometers northeast of Paris . It is located in the Vexin français Regional Nature Park .

Neighboring communities of Marines are Brignancourt in the west, Chars in the northwest, Neuilly-en-Vexin in the north, Le Heaulme in the northeast, Bréançon in the east, Frémécourt in the southeast, Bréançon in the south and Santeuil in the southwest.

history

Finds from prehistory attest to early settlement in the area by marines.

In the 10th century there were three castles in the village, which were destroyed in the 11th and 12th centuries. After the devastation of the Hundred Years War , Marines developed into a small town of regional importance in the 16th century, with a daily market and two large annual fairs.
