- February 15 : The Kroll Opera in Berlin, built by the architects Carl Ferdinand Langhans and Eduard Knoblauch with the significant participation of the royal master builder Ludwig Persius , opens with a ball.
- The 12-year-old Joseph Joachim brings Ludwig van Beethoven's decades-forgotten Violin Concerto in D major op. 61 in London under the direction of Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy for a new performance, whereupon the work has a permanent place in the concert repertoire.
- October 15 : Johann Strauss (son) made his first appearance at Casino Dommayer in the Vienna suburb of Hietzing , a well-known entertainment venue throughout the region. At the “ Soirée dansante”, among other things, the waltzes and epic poems are premiered.
Instrumental and vocal music
- Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy completes the Violin Concerto in E minor .
- Louis Spohr : Violin Concerto No. 15 in E minor , op.128.
- Hector Berlioz : The composer completes the following three works for the organ: (1) Hymne pour l'élévation en ré majeur, pour orgue ; (2) Sérénade agreste à la Madone sur le thème des pifferari romains en mi bémol majeur, pour orgue ; (3) Toccata en do majeur, pour orgue . In addition, the orchestral piece Le corsaire , op.21 and the overture Le carnaval romain , op.9 are created.
- Frédéric Chopin : Deux Nocturnes in F minor, E flat major op 55; Trois Mazurkas in B major, C major, C minor op 56; Berceuse op 57 (completed in 1844 and published in 1845); Piano Sonata No. 3 op 58.
- Richard Wagner will perform his work Ein Faust Overture for the first time on July 22nd in the Palais im Großer Garten in Dresden .
- George Onslow : String Quintet op 68.
- Johann Strauss (son) : Besides the already mentioned waltzes epigrams and favor advertisers brings the composer in 1844 following works out: Serail dances (Waltz) op 5; Herzenslust (Polka) op 3; Debut Quadrille op 2 and the Cytheren Quadrille op 6 out.
World premieres
- January 7th : The motet Jauchzet dem Herr, alle Welt , a setting of Psalm 100 by Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy , is premiered in a mass by the Royal Cathedral Choir in Berlin .
- January 12th : The opera Caterina Cornaro by Gaetano Donizetti has its world premiere at the Teatro San Carlo in Naples. It is the last of Donizetti's operas, the world premiere of which takes place during his lifetime. The work is not a success and the revised version, which will be premiered in Parma, does not find any echo with the audience or criticism.
- January 27 : The world premiere of the opera Hunyadi László by Ferenc Erkel takes place in Budapest.
- February 3 : In the Theater am Kärntnertor in Vienna, the opera is The Return of the exiles of Otto Nicolai premiered. The libretto is by Siegfried Kapper and is based on the work Le proscrit by Frédéric Soulié .
- February 10 : Adolphe Adam's opera Cagliostro premieres in Paris (Opéra-Comique).
- March 9 : The opera Ernani by Giuseppe Verdi based on a libretto by Francesco Maria Piave is premiered at the Teatro La Fenice in Venice. The template is based on the drama Hernani of Victor Hugo from the year 1830 . With this, his fifth opera, Verdi finally achieved the breakthrough, becoming one of the most frequently performed operas of the 19th century.
- April 9th : Johann Nestroy's posse Der Zerrissene with music by Adolf Müller senior celebrates its premiere at the Theater an der Wien . The material comes from the French comédie-vaudeville L'homme blasé (The Bored Man) by Félix-Auguste Duvert and Augustin-Théodore de Lauzanne .
- October 7th : The opera Richard en Palestine by Adolphe Adam based on a libretto by Paul Foucher comes out at the Paris Opera.
- November 3 : Giuseppe Verdi's opera I due Foscari with Achille De Bassini as Francesco Foscari has its world premiere at the Teatro Argentina in Rome . The libretto is by Francesco Maria Piave based on the play The Two Foscari by Lord Byron . The opera was only moderately successful, but was still performed frequently until the 1870s.
- November 27 : The opera The Daughter of St. Mark by Michael William Balfe premieres at the Drury Lane Theater in London.
- December 7th : The Singspiel Ein Feldlager in Schlesien by Giacomo Meyerbeer is premiered at the Royal Court Opera in Berlin .
- December 30th : Friedrich von Flotow's opera Alessandro Stradella about the life of the composer Alessandro Stradella is premiered at the Stadttheater Hamburg . The libretto comes from Friedrich Wilhelm Riese , who wrote it under the name Wilhelm Friedrich.
