At the XXIX. At the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing , eight Taekwondo competitions were held, four each for women and men. The venue was the sports hall of the University of Science and Technology in the Haidian district . As with the other martial arts, there were two bronze medal winners in each discipline, since decisive battles were now dispensed with.

After his defeat in the battle for third place, Cuban Ángel Matos attacked the referee in a fit of rage and kicked him in the face. The World Taekwondo Federation then banned Matos for life.
