Rokycany (up to 1927 "Rokocany"; Hungarian Berki ) is a municipality in the east of Slovakia with a population of 1,060 (December 31, 2019) in Prešov District of, part kraj Prešovský , and is the traditional landscape Šariš counted.
geography
The village is located in the Šarišská vrchovina mountains in the valley of the Svinka river . The center of the village lies at an altitude of 331 m nm and is 12 kilometers away from Prešov .
Neighboring municipalities are Kojatice in the north, Prešov in the northeast, Radatice in the east, Janov in the south, Bajerov in the west and Brežany in the northwest.
history
The place was first mentioned in writing in 1295 as Berky , at that time it was already a developed village with a mill. In the second quarter of the 14th century, Rokycany was owned by the Drugeth family , then at the beginning of the 15th century it was under the rule of the castle near Sokoľ . In 1423 the nobles of Pavlovce in Ung county owned the goods and in 1429 the village came under the ownership of the town of Košice . At that time the village had 21 portals , which corresponded to a medium-sized village. In the early modern period, the previously free farmers became impoverished, so that in 1567 and 1588 the tax levy was only five porta.
In 1828 there were 45 houses and 333 residents who were employed as carters and farmers, plus they were seasonal workers.
Until 1918, the place in Sharosh County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia.

According to the 2011 census, 934 residents lived in Rokycany, including 745 Slovaks , 100 Roma and four Czechs . 85 inhabitants did not give any information about the ethnicity .
672 residents committed themselves to the Roman Catholic Church, 113 residents to the Evangelical Church AB, 36 residents to the Apostolic Church, eight residents to the Greek Catholic Church and four residents to the Brethren Church. Six residents had no denomination and 95 residents had no denomination.
