European Rowing Championships 2021

Lake Varese

The European Rowing Championships 2021 were held from April 9 to 11, 2021 in Varese ( Italy ) on Lake Varese over the Olympic distance of 2000 meters. All finals took place on April 11th. At the European Championships, 24 competitions are held, ten of which are for men and women and four for par-rowers of both sexes.

One team from each of the 46 European member associations of the World Rowing Federation (FISA) was eligible to participate . A qualification regatta did not take place.

The European Rowing Championship was held in Varese for the second time after 2012 . The U23 rowing world championships were held in Varese in 2014 , and Lake Varese has also hosted regattas of the rowing world cup several times .

On January 25, 2021, FISA confirmed not only the scheduled implementation of the European Championships in Varese, but also the European qualifying regatta for the 2020 Olympic Games and the qualifying regatta for the 2020 Summer Paralympics . These should take place from April 5th to 7th directly before the European Championships in Varese.

Tests have been carried out in Varese due to the COVID-19 pandemic . On April 10, the virus was detected in three members of the Turkish team. The three positive people were isolated in a hotel. The remaining 17 people on the team who tested negative were also taken to an isolation hotel and all boats checked out. As the organizer's concept had been implemented well, the Turkish team had no contact with other teams, so the competition could continue with the remaining teams.

Results

The medal winners from the A finals are listed here. These are manned by six boats, which have to qualify for the finals via pre-run, hope runs and semi-finals. The length of the course is 2000 meters in all runs.
