Haus Opherdicke is a moated castle and a former manor in the Holzwicked district of Opherdicke . The house stands east of the town center on the ridge of the Ardey Mountains with a view to the south into the Ruhr valley . After the acquisition by the Unna district , it was extensively renovated and restored in 1980.

history

The estate was first mentioned in 1176. Heinrich von Herreke from the Dortmund Count's House gave his property to the Archbishop of Cologne that year , who gave it to the noble lords of Grafschaft after Heinrich's death . This family, which remained in the possession of Haus Opherdicke until 1573 , enfeoffed a family of ministers with the estate, which took the name Herreke. After Gruwel and Lappe became the heirs of the Herreke owners through marriage in the 15th century , the estate passed to the von Fresendorf Burgmann family from Kamen , from whom it was bought by von Hane zu Werve in 1719 . In 1792 Franz Caspar von Lilien inherited the estate, which his grandchildren of the same name bequeathed to his niece Eugenie Countess Berghe von Trips, née von Fürstenberg , in 1906 . After parts of the property had been sold in 1912, the remaining property with the house was sold to Theodor Regenbogen in 1918 .

Until the end of the monarchy in Prussia in 1918, the Opherdicke house was an estate eligible for state parliament .

From 1683 to 1687 the old moated castle was rebuilt and received its present shape. In the 18th and 19th centuries the farm and auxiliary buildings were built, which still border the inner courtyard in an unchanged form. The castle park in the form of an English garden was designed by Maximilian Friedrich Weyhe according to the assumptions of the local historian Reinhold Stirnberg .

In 1980 the district of Unna acquired the Opherdicke house (without agriculture) from the heirs of the above-mentioned Theodor Regenbogen and had it extensively renovated and restored. In 2011, a phase of restoration and aesthetic upgrading took place for the second time after the takeover by the Unna district. Art exhibitions can now be seen in some of the exhibition and gallery rooms, in particular with works from the Frank Brabant collection ; there are also chamber concerts and exhibitions on classical modernism . The house is also available for private events and conferences.

Home parlor

The old forge was built in 1947 by converting a wagon shed on the property. It stands on the western edge of the manor complex. From 1947 to 1990, the blacksmith Ernst Hesse ran a blacksmith and wagon forge here. Through donations from the municipality of Holzwickede, the Sparkasse Unna , the Volksbank Unna, the Museum Office in Münster and voluntary work by members of the Historisches Verein Holzwickede e. V. opened the Heimatstube in 2002. Today tools from other trades can also be seen here. On special occasions, there is also forging here.
