Sedlice (until 1927 Slovak and "Sedlice"; German Sedlitz , Sednitz ; Hungarian Szedlice ) is a place and a municipality in Prešov District ( Prešovský kraj ) in the east of Slovakia , with a population of 1,027 (December 31, 2019).
geography
The municipality is located on the southern edge of the Šarišská vrchovina mountain range on the Sopotnica brook , which flows into the Hornád further southeast after a breakthrough in the Čierna hora mountain range . The center of the village is located 26 kilometers from the town of Prešov .
history
The first proven settlement of the place goes back to the time before the 11th century. The first mention of Selic comes from the year 1329. In the High Middle Ages the place belonged to the landowners of Drienov , then briefly to the Drugeth dynasty , then from the late 14th century it became more changeable between the king, the city of Kosice and various landowners. In a directory from 1427 66 porta are mentioned. In the next age, however, Huber left the village or became impoverished, so that in the middle of the 16th century there were only 9 portals. In addition to agriculture and forestry, there was a saw and a quarry in the village.
