Huber
Huber was the name given to farmers who owned a whole Hube (Low German Hufe ) of arable land as property. The name goes back to the Upper German term for Hufner .
This led to the development of the family name Huber, which is one of the most common 5 to 10 in the German-speaking world , especially in Austria and Switzerland , where it makes up around 0.3 percent of family names (after Bauer , Müller and Mayer with 0.4%, Wagner , Berger, Fischer, Gruber and Schwarz with 0.3%). Common surnames in Upper Austria are also Huemer, Humer. Due to the regionally different pronunciation of the surname Huber, since Huaba, which was pronounced Huober, Huama (er), Huabma (er), the surnames Huemer, Humer, Haumer, Huebmer and Hueber developed. However, the surname Huber also occurs in this language area. Another variant is the family name Hinterhuber .
