economy
Until the end of the 19th century, Vugelles-La Mothe was predominantly an agricultural municipality. In 1526 Vaud's first paper mill was founded on the Arnon. Towards the end of the 19th century, the community experienced an economic boom when a bell foundry, a music box factory and a gemstone cutting shop opened. After production in these companies had to be stopped as a result of the economic crisis of the 1930s, there was massive emigration.
Today agriculture and animal husbandry have again an important role in the income structure of the population. Some other jobs are available in local small businesses and in the service sector. In the last few decades, Vugelles-La Mothe has also developed into a residential community. Some workers are therefore commuters who work mainly in the Yverdon area .

The community is located away from the major thoroughfares on a connecting road from Vuiteboeuf along the foot of the Jura to Fontaines-sur-Grandson . history
The first written mention of Vugelles took place in 1228 under the name Vouzela . Later the names Wouzala (1260), Vougala (1370), Vougella (1403) and Vougellaz (1453) appeared. The place name is derived from the regional dialect form vouerdze (green alder). La Mothe was also first mentioned in 1228 as La Mottaz , which means something like fortified hill .
Vugelles and La Mothe initially belonged to the Champvent rule in the Middle Ages . At the beginning of the 14th century the villages were separated from this rule and the new rule La Mothe was established. With the conquest of Vaud by Bern in 1536, Vugelles-La Mothe came under the administration of the Bailiwick of Yverdon . After the collapse of the Ancien Régime , the municipality belonged to the canton of Léman from 1798 to 1803 during the Helvetic Republic, which then became part of the canton of Vaud when the mediation constitution came into force . In 1798 it was assigned to the Yverdon district. Until 1849, Vugelles-La Mothe formed a large municipality to which the villages of Orges and Longeville also belonged.
