L'Abergement ([ labɛʀʒəmɑ̃ ], in the native Franco-Provencal dialect [ labɛrʣəˈmɛ̃ ]) is a municipality in the district of Jura-Nord vaudois in the canton of Vaud in Switzerland .

geography

L'Abergement is located at 655  m above sea level. M. , 12 km west-southwest of the district capital Yverdon-les-Bains (air line). The farming village extends on the Jura foot plateau between the Orbe plain and the first Jura chain .

The area of ​​the 5.7 km² municipal area covers a section of the Vaudois Jura. The municipality floor extends from the Jura foot plateau westward over the steep slope to the crest of the Suchet , on the southern slope of 1460  m above sea level. M. the highest point of L'Abergement is reached. Here there are extensive Jura high pastures with the typical mighty spruce trees , which either stand individually or in groups. A narrow tip extends into the catchment area of ​​the Jougnena west of the Suchet. In 1997, 5% of the municipal area was accounted for by settlements, 55% for forests and woodlands and 40% for agriculture.

L'Abergement includes the hamlet of Vailloud ( 749  m above sea level ) on the lower slope of the Suchet as well as some individual farms on the Jura heights. The neighboring communities of L'Abergement are Baulmes , Rances , Sergey , Les Clées and Lignerolle in the canton of Vaud and Jougne in neighboring France .

With 248 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2018), L'Abergement is one of the small communities in the canton of Vaud. 96.6% of the residents are French-speaking, 2.1% German-speaking and 0.4% Italian-speaking (as of 2000). The population of L'Abergement was 318 in 1850 and 227 in 1900. A further decline in population took place until 1980 (146 inhabitants). Since then, an upward trend has been observed again.

L'Abergement is still an agricultural village today , with arable farming predominating at the foot of the Jura , and cattle breeding and dairy farming on the higher elevations . There are other jobs in a sawmill and in local small businesses. In recent years, L'Abergement has developed into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who work in Orbe or Yverdon .

The community is located off the major thoroughfares on the cantonal road from Lignerolle to Baulmes. L'Abergement is connected to the public transport network by a postbus course that runs from Orbe to Vallorbe .

history

L'Abergement has been under the rule of Les Clées since the Middle Ages . With the conquest of Vaud by Bern in 1536, L'Abergement became part of Kastlanei Les Clées, which was subordinate to the Bailiwick of Yverdon. After the collapse of the Ancien Régime , the village belonged to the canton of Léman from 1798 to 1803 during the Helvetic Republic, which then became part of the canton of Vaud when the mediation constitution came into force . After that it was assigned to the Orbe district.

Attractions

The parish church of L'Abergement was built in 1902. She owns stained glass by the artist Eugène Grasset , which were actually designed for the Lausanne Cathedral. Some characteristic farmhouses from the 17th to 19th centuries have been preserved in the town center.
