history

Traces testify to an early settlement of the municipality area. The place was first mentioned in writing in 1330 under its current name. The names Prata (1400) and Lapraz (1867) appeared later . The place name goes back to the Latin word pratum ( meadow , willow ).

La Praz has belonged to the Romainmôtier monastery since the Middle Ages . With the conquest of Vaud by Bern in 1536, the village became part of the Kastlanei and Landvogtei Romainmôtier. After the collapse of the Ancien Régime , La Praz belonged to the canton of Léman from 1798 to 1803 during the Helvetic Republic, which then became part of the canton of Vaud when the mediation constitution came into force . It was assigned to the Orbe district in 1798. In 1881 numerous houses fell victim to a village fire.
