Bofflens is a municipality in the Jura-Nord vaudois district in the canton of Vaud in Switzerland .
geography
Bofflens lies at 572 m above sea level. M. , 3 km southwest of Orbe and 13 km southwest of the district capital Yverdon-les-Bains (linear distance). The farming village extends in the Vaudois Central Plateau on the Jura foot plateau between the Orbe plain and the first Jura chain .
The area of the 4.2 km² municipal area includes a section of the Jura foot plateau. This is slightly inclined to the east and forms a small hollow near Bofflens, which opens towards Agiez. To the east of the hollow is the Pepet elevation ( 589 m above sea level ). In the south, the community soil extends to the edge of the Bioute forest . To the west the area extends to the height of the forest Crêt des Fives , at 659 m above sea level. M. the highest point of Bofflens is reached. In 1997, 4% of the municipal area was accounted for by settlements, 23% for forests and trees and 73% for agriculture.
Some individual farms belong to Bofflens. The neighboring communities of Bofflens are Agiez in the northeast , Arnex-sur-Orbe in the southeast, Croy in the southwest , Romainmôtier-Envy in the west and Bretonnières in the northwest .

With 196 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2018), Bofflens is one of the small communities in the canton of Vaud. 96.2% of the residents are French-speaking, 3.2% German-speaking and 0.6% English-speaking (as of 2000). The population of Bofflens has continuously decreased since 1850 (332 inhabitants) (1900 still 249 inhabitants, 1970 142 inhabitants).
economy
Bofflens is still an agricultural village today. Thanks to the fertile soils on the Jura foot plateau, mainly arable farming is practiced. The local small business offers additional jobs.

The community is quite accessible. It is located on the main road from Orbe via Croy and over the Pétra Felix pass into the Vallée de Joux . Bofflens is connected to the public transport network through a Postbus course that runs from Orbe to Vaulion .
history
The earliest traces of settlement in the municipality of Bofflens go back to the Hallstatt and La Tène periods . Graves from the early Middle Ages were also discovered. The place was first mentioned in a document in 1007 under the name in curte Bofflenis ; The name Boflinges appeared in 1011 and the current name as early as 1049. The place name is probably derived from the Burgundian personal name Baudulf or Bodulf .
In the 10th century, Bofflens belonged to the Kingdom of Hochburgund , in 1011 it came to the Romainmôtier monastery . With the conquest of Vaud by Bern in 1536, the village became part of the Kastlanei and Landvogtei Romainmôtier. After the collapse of the Ancien Régime , Bofflens belonged to the canton of Léman from 1798 to 1803 during the Helvetic Republic, which then became part of the canton of Vaud when the mediation constitution came into force . It was assigned to the Orbe district in 1798. In the 19th century, Bofflens owned a vocational school for carpenters and joiners.
Attractions
The church of Bofflens was built in 1914, the schoolhouse dates from the 18th century. In the town center there are some typical farmhouses from the 17th to 19th centuries.
