With 238 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2018) Grandevent is one of the small communities in the canton of Vaud. 92.4% of the residents are French-speaking, 3.5% German-speaking and 1.4% Italian-speaking (as of 2000). The population of Grandevent was 152 inhabitants in 1850, after which it steadily decreased to 58 inhabitants until 1970. Even today, arable farming is predominant in the lower part of the municipality , and cattle breeding and dairy farming on the Jura heights . In the last few decades, Grandevent has developed into a residential community. Since there are hardly any jobs in the village outside of the primary sector, many employed people are commuters who work mainly in Yverdon.
traffic
The community is far away from the larger thoroughfares. The main access is from Fontaines-sur-Grandson , a narrow road leads above the village to Villars-Burquin . The Postbus course, which runs from Yverdon to Novalles , runs to Grandevent at certain times.
history
Grand event came about relatively late compared to the other municipalities in the region. The first written mention under the name Grandevens took place in the 16th century. Sometimes the place was named Vers chez Grison after a homestead southwest of Grandevent. The village belonged to the Bailiwick of Grandson, which was under the common rule of Bern and Freiburg since 1476 . It was not until 1730 that Grandevent became an independent municipality after the Meieramt Fiez was divided . After the collapse of the Ancien Régime , the village belonged to the canton of Léman from 1798 to 1803 during the Helvetic Republic, which then became part of the canton of Vaud when the mediation constitution came into force .
