Corcelles-près-Concise is a municipality in the district of Jura-Nord vaudois in the canton of Vaud in Switzerland .
geography
Corcelles-près-Concise is 470 m above sea level. M. , 9 km northeast of the district capital Yverdon-les-Bains (air line). The village extends at the southern foot of the Jura , on a small elevation at the foot of Mont Aubert , near the shores of Lake Neuchâtel .
The area of the 4.1 km² municipal area includes a section on the west bank of Lake Neuchâtel. The communal soil extends from the lakeshore with a flat edge of the river northwards over the Corcelles crest and the densely wooded Jura slope up to the ridge of Mont Aubert. Here is with 1290 m above sea level. M. the highest point of Corcelles-près-Concise reached. In 1997, 7% of the municipal area was settled, 42% forest and woodland, 50% agriculture and a little less than 1% was unproductive land.
Corcelles-près-Concise includes some individual farms on the southern slopes of the Jura. Corcelles-près-Concise's neighboring municipalities are Onnens , Bonvillars and Concise .

With 403 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2018) Corcelles-près-Concise is one of the small communities in the canton of Vaud. 95.7% of the residents are French-speaking, 3.6% German-speaking and 0.7% English-speaking (as of 2000). The population of Corcelles-près-Concise was 295 in 1888, then decreased to 201 in 1970, and since then a slight upward trend has been observed.
economy
Corcelles-près-Concise is still a predominantly agricultural village today . Agriculture is practiced on the fertile soil at the foot of the Jura, while there is some viticulture on the lower southern slopes . The local small business offers only a few jobs. Many of the workers who have moved here in recent years are commuters who work mainly in Yverdon.
traffic
The community has good transport links. It is located on the main road 5 from Neuchâtel to Yverdon . With the opening of the A5 motorway (Yverdon-Neuchâtel) in May 2005, the town experienced a noticeable reduction in traffic congestion. The next connection to the motorway, which crosses the municipality, is around 4 km from the town center. Corcelles-près-Concise is connected to the public transport network through the Postbus course, which runs from Yverdon to Gorgier .
history
Like many other communities along Lake Neuchâtel, Corcelles-près-Concise can look back on a very long tradition of settlement. The lakeshore was inhabited during the Neolithic and Bronze Ages ( stilt houses ). The four menhirs of Corcelles , called Longues Pierres , also date from this period . There are also traces of a settlement from the Iron Age and Roman times . An early medieval burial ground was also discovered.
The place was first mentioned in a document in 885 under the name Corceles ; In 888 the name Corcella appeared . The place name is derived from the Latin word corticella ( small courtyard ). Corcelles was under the bishop of Lausanne in the Middle Ages and later under the rule of Grandson. Since 1376 the place formed its own small rule. After 1476 this was incorporated into the Bailiwick of Grandson, which was under the common rule of Bern and Friborg . After the collapse of the Ancien Régime , Corcelles-près-Concise belonged to the canton of Léman from 1798 to 1803 during the Helvetic Republic, which then became part of the canton of Vaud when the mediation constitution came into force .
Attractions
The current construction of the Corcelles-près-Concise castle dates back to 1780. The parish hall was built in 1839. The four menhirs north of the village are also worth seeing. Corcelles-près-Concise does not have its own church, it belongs to the parish of Concise .
