Treycovagnes is a municipality in the Jura-Nord vaudois district of the canton of Vaud in Switzerland .

geography

Treycovagnes is 457  m above sea level. M. , 2.5 km west-southwest of the district capital Yverdon-les-Bains (air line). The street line village extends slightly higher on the northern edge of the Orbe level and on the lower southern slope Mont de Chamblon , in the Vaudois Central Plateau .

The area of ​​the municipal area of ​​2.1 km² covers a section of the northern Vaud Central Plateau. The communal soil extends from the canalized Thielle northward over the intensely agriculturally used Orbe plain with the Canal Occidental and the Mujon to the southern slope of Mont de Chamblon, where at 510  m above sea level. M. the highest point of Treycovagnes is reached. In 1997, 14% of the municipal area was in settlements, 0.5% in forests and woodlands, 85% in agriculture and a little less than 1% was unproductive land.

Treycovagnes includes the new residential quarter Champ Muraz ( 470  m above sea level ) on the southern slope of Mont de Chamblon, the houses at the eastern foot of the mountain and a few individual courtyards. The neighboring communities of Treycovagnes are Yverdon-les-Bains in the west, Ependes in the south, Suscévaz in the southwest , Chamblon in the northwest and north and Montagny-près-Yverdon in the north-northeast .

With 477 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2018), Treycovagnes is one of the small communities in the canton of Vaud. 93.7% of the residents are French-speaking, 2.8% German-speaking and 1.5% Italian-speaking (as of 2000). The population of Treycovagnes was 185 in 1900. After the population had decreased slightly to 162 people by 1980, a rapid increase in population has been registered since then, with the number of inhabitants tripling within 20 years.

economy

Treycovagnes was a predominantly agricultural village until the second half of the 20th century . Even today, arable farming (especially vegetable crops and sugar beets) and fruit growing play an important role in the income structure of the population. There used to be a small wine-growing region on the southern slope of Mont de Chamblon . Further jobs are available in local small businesses and in the service sector. Over the last few decades Treycovagnes has developed into a residential community. Numerous workers are therefore commuters who work primarily in the Yverdon area .

The community has good transport connections. It is located on the main road from Yverdon to Orbe . Treycovagnes is connected to the public transport network by a post bus that runs from Yverdon to Orbe.

history

The municipal area was crossed by the Roman road from Eburodunum (Yverdon) to Urba (Orbe) during Roman times, but hardly any remains from this period have survived. The first written mention of the place took place in 1228 under the name Trescovanes . The name Trecovagnes appeared in 1364 and Trescovaignes in 1453 .

Treycovagnes belonged to the Grandson rule in the Middle Ages . With the conquest of Vaud by Bern in 1536, the village came under the administration of the Bailiwick of Yverdon . After the collapse of the Ancien Régime , Treycovagnes belonged to the canton of Léman from 1798 to 1803 during the Helvetic Republic, which then became part of the canton of Vaud when the mediation constitution came into force . In 1798 it was assigned to the Yverdon district.

Attractions

In the old town center some typical farmhouses from the 17th to 19th centuries have been preserved. Treycovagnes does not have its own church, it belongs to the parish of Yverdon-les-Bains.
