Until December 31, 2011, Villars-sous-Champvent was a municipality in the Jura-Nord vaudois district of the canton of Vaud in Switzerland . On January 1, 2012, it merged with Champvent .

Villars-sous-Champvent lies at 464  m above sea level. M. , four and a half kilometers west of the district capital Yverdon-les-Bains (as the crow flies). The farming village extends slightly above the valley of the Bey , in the Vaudois Central Plateau .

The area of ​​the former municipal area, which is just 0.9 km² in size, covers a section of the northern Vaud Central Plateau at the foot of the Jura . The central part of the area is the flat valley of the Bey . To the north is the hill of Villars-sous-Champvent, which is one of the plateaus at the foot of the Jura. With 58 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2011), Villars-sous-Champvent is one of the smallest former municipalities in the canton of Vaud. 97.8% of the residents are French-speaking and 2.2% German-speaking (as of 2000). The population of Villars-sous-Champvent was 56 in 1900. After the population decreased to 37 by 1990, a slight increase has been registered since then.

Villars-sous-Champvent still lives mainly from agriculture , especially from agriculture and fruit growing . There are three small wine-growing areas on the southern slope below the village . Outside of the primary sector there are hardly any jobs in the village.

history

The village was called La Grange-de-Champvent in the Middle Ages . Villars-sous-Champvent was part of the Champvent reign in the Middle Ages. With the conquest of Vaud by Bern in 1536, the village came under the administration of the Bailiwick of Yverdon . After the collapse of the Ancien Régime , Villars-sous-Champvent belonged to the canton of Léman from 1798 to 1803 during the Helvetic Republic, which then became part of the canton of Vaud when the mediation constitution came into force . In 1798 it was assigned to the Yverdon district. Villars-sous-Champvent does not have its own church, it belongs to the parish of Champvent .
