Bullet ([ bylɛ ], in the native Franco-Provencal dialect [ (a) byˈlɛ ]) is a municipality in the district of Jura-Nord vaudois in the canton of Vaud in Switzerland .
geography
Bullet is 1143 m above sea level. M. , 8 km northwest of the district capital Yverdon-les-Bains (air line). The village extends on the open, south-sloping slope of the Chasseron Jura chain , in a sunny and panoramic location around 700 m above the level of the Swiss plateau . When the weather is clear, Bullet offers an alpine panorama from Mont Blanc to the Säntis region .
The area of the 16.9 km² municipal area includes a section on the southern slope of the Chasseron chain. The community soil extends from the edge above the steep slope Côte de Vugelles to the north over the at around 1200 m above sea level. M. lying front terrace of the Chasseron and the forest slope La Grande Joux up to the ridge of the Chasseron, which is 1607 m above sea level. M. forms the highest point of Bullet. To the southwest of the summit are the Petites Roches ( 1583 m above sea level ) and to the northeast the height of Les Cernets ( 1454 m above sea level ). A small part of the community is located west of the Chasseron in a disposal cauldron that is drained to the Areuse by the Buttes river . To the northeast, the area extends over the front terrace of the Chasseron with the heights of Petit Suard ( 1234 m above sea level ) and Les Coutettes ( 1222 m above sea level ) and also includes the La Combe basin . In this area there are remains of moraines from the Ice Age Rhone glacier . On the wide ridge of the anticlines of the Chasseron there are extensive Jura high pastures with the typical mighty spruce trees , which either stand individually or in groups. In 1997, 5% of the municipal area was in settlements, 46% in forests and woodlands, 49% in agriculture and a little more than 1% was unproductive land.
Bullet includes the districts of Les Rasses ( 1188 m above sea level ) on the southern slope of the Petites Roches, Les Cluds ( 1210 m above sea level ) and Les Crosats ( 1206 m above sea level ) and La Frête (also called La Frêtaz ) , 1210 m above sea level ) on the front terrace of the Chasseron as well as numerous individual farms scattered across the Jura heights. The neighboring communities of Bullet are Sainte-Croix , Fiez , Fontaines-sur-Grandson , Grandevent , Novalles , Vugelles-La Mothe and Vuiteboeuf .

population
With 655 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2018), Bullet is one of the small communities in the canton of Vaud. 92.3% of the residents are French-speaking, 5.8% German-speaking and 0.8% Italian-speaking (as of 2000). The population of Bullet was 767 in 1860 and 631 in 1900. In particular from 1950 to 1980 (436 inhabitants) there was a strong emigration. An upward trend has been observed again in the last few decades.
economy
For a long time, Bullet was mainly an agricultural village, with cattle and dairy farming still predominant today. Towards the end of the 18th century, the village experienced an economic boom thanks to the watch industry . From the middle of the 19th century until the 20th century, the manufacture of jukeboxes was important.
traffic
The community is located away from the major thoroughfares. The main access is through a junction from the main road from Yverdon to Sainte-Croix . Bullet also has a direct road connection with Sainte-Croix and Mauborget . Bullet is connected to the public transport network through a post bus course to Sainte-Croix.
tourism
After the opening of the Yverdon - Sainte-Croix railway line in 1893, the district of Les Rasses developed into a resort. Tourism only declined after 1930. After numerous holiday homes and apartments have been built since 1960, Les Rasses is now primarily known as a winter sports resort. There are several ski lifts on the slope of the Petites Roches. On the front terrace of the Chasseron, over 95 km of cross-country trails are groomed in winter. The area around the Chasseron is also a popular destination for long hikes in summer.
history
The first written mention of the place took place in 1323 under the name Buleto . Bullet was part of the Sainte-Croix reign until 1536. Then it belonged to the Bailiwick of Yverdon, which was under Bernese rule, until the end of the Ancien Régime . After the collapse of the Ancien Régime, Bullet belonged to the canton of Léman from 1798 to 1803 during the Helvetic Republic, which then became part of the canton of Vaud after mediation . Bullet was assigned to the Grandson district. Numerous houses fell victim to a village fire in 1744.
Attractions
The current building of the reformed church dates from 1887. A first chapel is mentioned as early as 1569; In 1663 Bullet became its own parish. The church, which was destroyed in the big fire in the village, was quickly rebuilt, but burned down again in 1886. Some houses from the 18th and 19th centuries have been preserved in the old town center.
