Suscévaz is a municipality in the Jura-Nord vaudois district of the canton of Vaud in Switzerland .
geography
Suscévaz is 445 m above sea level. M. , 5 km west-southwest of the district capital Yverdon-les-Bains (air line). The clustered village extends on the northern edge of the Orbe plain , on the most south-westerly foothill of Mont de Chamblon , in the Vaud Central Plateau .
The area of the 4.2 km² municipal area covers a section of the northern Vaud Central Plateau. The southern part of the municipality is taken up by the intensely agriculturally used Orbe plain. The area extends southwards over the canalized courses of the Mujon , the Canal Occidental and the Thielle to almost the Canal Oriental . To the north of the village, the parish includes the partly wooded western slope of Mont de Chamblon , which is separated from the heights of the Jura foot plateau by the Bey valley . The highest point of Suscévaz is 530 m above sea level. M. on the edge of the Mont de Chamblon. In 1997, 5% of the municipal area was in settlements, 11% in forests and woodlands, 82% in agriculture and a little more than 2% was unproductive land.
Some individual farms belong to Suscévaz. The neighboring municipalities of Suscévaz are Chamblon , Treycovagnes , Ependes , Mathod , Champvent and Villars-sous-Champvent .

With 212 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2018), Suscévaz is one of the small communities in the canton of Vaud. 93.3% of the residents are French-speaking, 3.9% Portuguese-speaking and 1.7% German-speaking (as of 2000). The population of Suscévaz was 144 in 1900. During the 20th century, the population remained stable at the level of 1900. Only since 1980 has a slight increasing trend been recorded.
economy
Until the second half of the 20th century, Suscévaz was a predominantly agricultural village. Even today, arable farming (especially vegetable crops and sugar beets) and fruit growing play an important role in the income structure of the population. There is a small wine-growing area on the southern slope of Mont de Chamblon . Further jobs are available in local small businesses and in the service sector. In the last few decades Suscévaz has developed into a residential community. Numerous workers are therefore commuters who work mainly in Orbe and the Yverdon area .

The community has good transport connections. It is located on the main road from Yverdon to Orbe . Suscévaz is connected to the public transport network by a postbus course that runs from Yverdon to Orbe.
history
The first written mention of the place took place in 1141 under the name Sub Silva (meaning under the forest ). Later the names Suceve (1315), Souceva (1368) and Suscéva (1536) appeared.
Since the Middle Ages , Suscévaz was part of the Grandson reign. The Premonstratensian Abbey of Lac de Joux ( L'Abbaye ) also had basic rights in the village area. With the conquest of Vaud by Bern in 1536, Suscévaz came under the administration of the Bailiwick of Yverdon . After the collapse of the Ancien Régime , the village belonged to the canton of Léman from 1798 to 1803 during the Helvetic Republic, which then became part of the canton of Vaud when the mediation constitution came into force . In 1798 it was assigned to the Yverdon district. Suscévaz does not have its own church, it belongs to the Mathod parish.
