Baar is a municipality in the Mayen-Koblenz district in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the community of Vordereifel , which has its administrative headquarters in Mayen .
geography
Baar is close to the Nürburgring . The highest point in the community is the 652.1 meter high Reuterberg .
Districts are Engeln, Freilingen, Niederbaar, Oberbaar, Büchel, Mittelbaar and Wanderath.
history
Until the end of the 18th century, the villages that are now part of the municipality of Baar belonged to the county of Virneburg .
In 2019, the Wanderath district received national attention through the program Team Wallraff . In a youth welfare facility in the small Eifel village, carers are said to have physically abused young people and young adults and tortured them using solitary confinement. After the program was broadcast, the Koblenz public prosecutor's office began investigations, and the home supervisor closed the home after an examination.

Mining
In the district of Freilingen, lead was mined. The Bendisberg mine only supplied ores of low value, the processing of which was time-consuming and expensive. The dismantling was therefore only worthwhile temporarily.
Buildings
The parish church of Sankt Valerius is in the Wanderath district. The original building dates from the 13th century, the extensions and changes at the beginning of the 15th century, neo-Gothic extension 1896 to 1897 according to the plans of the architect Lambert von Fisenne and 1921 to 1922 according to the plans of the diocesan master builder Heinrich Renard .
The chapel in the Oberbaar district was built in 1773 and is dedicated to St. Donatus . The baroque interior dates from the time it was built.
