history

Gundelfingen

Gundelfingen was first mentioned in a document in 1008. King Heinrich II granted Basel Bishop Adalbero the right to ban wild animals in an area of the Freiburg Bay . The typical name ending " -ingen " suggests that the place originated in the 4th century . Probably an Alemannic leader named Gundolf settled here with his people.

The village was under the rule of the Zähringen , who had their seat in the nearby Zähringen Castle , in 1218 it came under the rule of the Counts of Freiburg . In 1327 the counts Gundelfingen sold to the Freiburg Schnewelin Bernlapp . In 1507 it was sold by the von Blumegg family to the Baden margrave Christoph . From 1584 to 1590 it belonged to the margraviate of Baden-Hachberg . With the territorial reform in 1809 Gundelfingen came to the Freiburg II Landamt, which was combined with the Freiburg I Landamt to form the Freiburg Landamt in 1819. On January 1, 1972, the community expanded through the incorporation of Wildtal. In 2008 Gundelfingen celebrated its 1000th anniversary with a three-day party and a large parade.

Wildtal was first mentioned in a document in 1273. Like Gundelfingen, it belonged to the rule of the Zähringer and came to Schnewelin Bernlapp via the Freiburg counts in 1327. In contrast to Gundelfingen, the lordship over Wildtal went to the barons of Beroldingen in 1652 , until the village was sold to Count Friedrich von Kageneck in 1788 . In 1805 it was assigned to the Grand Duchy of Baden as a result of the Reichsdeputationshauptschluss . The Wildtaler population voted (with a three-quarters majority) in 1971 for a connection to Gundelfingen, which was completed on January 1, 1972 with the incorporation. The community of Wildtal then had 1129 inhabitants and an area of 7.07 km².

badges and flags

The coat of arms shows in the split shield in front a red sloping bar on a gold background. This stands for the former belonging to Baden . In the back a silver fir tree in a silver enclosure on a green background, which suggests ownership. The illustration goes back to the tradition that an Alemannic prince named Gundolf owned a piece of land here and later the Basel Bishop Adalbero the right to ban the wilderness. The flag is used as an upright flag or as a hanging banner. It has a green and a white stripe, which come from the colors of the rear part of the coat of arms.

Town twinning

The first Gundelfingen partnership was sealed in 1987 with the French city of Meung-sur-Loire , which has 6,800 inhabitants and is located directly on the Loire , about 30 km from Orléans . Ten years later, in 1997, the Polish city of Bieruń ( Berun in German ) followed with around 20,000 inhabitants, 20 km south of Katowice in Upper Silesia. A partnership has also been maintained with the Saxon city of Scheibenberg since 1997, which has a population of just under 2,400.
