history
Until the parish merger
The Hohenaschau Castle was built in the 12th century in the Upper Priental in the last third by Conrad and Arnold of Hirnberg . Significant noble families expanded the property and made the castle the center of the administrative seat of their rule. The Hohenaschau rule was not a principality in the strict sense of the word, but still had a number of sovereign rights such as the right of high and blood justice.
During the renovation and expansion of the palace in the style of the Renaissance (1540–1560) and High Baroque (1672–1686), the baroque palace chapel and the former beneficiary house, today's Priental Museum, were built. After further changes, especially from 1905 to 1908 by Theodor von Cramer-Klett , the property passed to the Federal Republic of Germany and is now used as a holiday home for the Federal Finance Administration.
Hohen- and Niederaschau became independent political communities in the course of the administrative reforms in Bavaria in 1818. On January 1, 1966, Hohen- and Niederaschau were merged to form the municipality of Aschau im Chiemgau.
Incorporations
On May 1, 1978, as part of the municipal area reform, the former municipality of Sachrang and the southern part of the former municipality of Umrathshausen were incorporated into the municipality of Aschau im Chiemgau. This made it the largest municipality in terms of area in the Rosenheim district.
Population development
Between 1988 and 2018 the municipality grew from 3,907 to 5,731 by 1,824 inhabitants or 46.7%.
