Cercy-la-Tour is a French commune with 1,746 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Nièvre in the region of Bourgogne Franche-Comté . It belongs to the arrondissement of Château-Chinon (Ville) . The place is located on the Aron River , at the confluence of its right tributary Canne and the left tributary Alène . In addition, the crosses navigation canal Nivernais Canal , which here runs parallel to the Aron, the location area.

history

In Gallo-Roman times, Cercy was the oppidum Cerciacum with four additions that can still be proven today:

  • Porte d'Aron at the top of Rue d'Aron
  • Porte de Coulonges, opposite, at the bottom of Rue Pasteur
  • Porte de Bourgogne at the intersection of Rue Louis Albert Morlon and Rue des Vignes
  • Porte de Paris at the intersection of Rue de Bourgogne and Rue Saint Vallier

Between 1790 and 1794 the neighboring village of Coddes was incorporated. In 1801 the place was renamed from Cercy-sur-Aron to Cercy-la-Tour.
