history

The Chester County was formed on March 4, 1875 from parts of Hardeman County, Henderson County, Madison County and McNairy County. It was named after Robert I. Chester (1793-1892), a politician from Tennessee.

The National Teacher's Normal and Business College Administration Building is one of the county's three entries in the NRHP.

Three buildings in the county are listed on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) (as of August 10, 2018).
