Dade County was formed on January 29, 1841 from parts of Greene County. It was named after Major Francis L. Dade (1793-1835), who was killed in the Seminole Wars.
Demographic data
As of the 2010 census , Dade County had 7,883 people in 3,276 households. The population density was 6.2 people per square kilometer. Statistically, there were 2.42 people each in the 3276 households.
The racial the population was composed of 95.7 percent white, 0.6 percent African American, 1.0 percent Native American, 0.3 percent Asian and other ethnic groups; 2.4 percent were descended from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 1.6 percent of the population.
