Schrobenhausen is a town in the Neuburg-Schrobenhausen district in Upper Bavaria . The city is a middle center in Region 10 and is the seat, but not a member community of the administrative community Schrobenhausen (VG Schrobenhausen). The VG includes five neighboring communities of the city of Schrobenhausen.

Schrobenhausen is located in northern Upper Bavaria in the Paartal at the confluence of the Weilach in the Paar in the tertiary hill country. The nearest regional centers are in Ingolstadt, around 30 km away, and Augsburg, 45 km away . The state capital Munich is around 60 km away.

history
Prehistory, early history and antiquity
Archaeological monuments and archaeological finds from the Bronze Age, Hallstatt Period and the Celtic era suggest nomadic tribes and settlement by pasture farmers. The occasionally alleged existence of a Roman fort has not yet been proven. The Roman road Augsburg - Regensburg ran in today's urban area.
middle Ages
During the term of office of Freising Bishop Atto (783–811), the place name “Scropinhusen” appears for the first time in donation books from Freising's Marienkirche. Later donation deeds show that Schrobenhausen 888 has a parish church, a manor house and a granary. In the 10th century the small settlement was devastated during the Hungarian invasions and was not mentioned in any documents for more than 100 years.
Allegedly raised to market in the middle of the 13th century, Schrobenhausen seals for the first time with its own coat of arms, the crowned bear looking to the left above the Bavarian Rautenfeld. In 1333, Duke Ludwig the Bavarian , often a personal guest in Schrobenhausen, expressly recognizes the citizens' council and the municipal code, the market and Schrannen rights as well as the weights and measures. He had a first ring-shaped, wooden weir built around the market with ditches, battlements and watchtowers.
In the city war of 1387–1389 , Schrobenhausen was completely destroyed by Augsburg troops in 1388, including the church, town hall and fortifications. Duke Ludwig im Bart supports Schrobenhausen with the reconstruction (tax exemption, timber from ducal forests, etc.). An expansion of the city to the northeast and northwest creates the city plan that has been preserved to this day. The new weir system (apart from the gates partly still in place) is now being built from fired bricks. The Schranne and sales rooms for bread and meat are located in the rebuilt town hall.
Schrobenhausen flourished in the 15th century. Three churches are being built (the parish church of St. Jakob, the church of “Our Lady” and the suburban church of St. Salvator), the Heilig-Geist-Spital, the Latin school and the “Zeil” west of the town hall with stately stepped town houses. In 1447 Duke Heinrich von Landshut gives Schrobenhausen town rights. Schrobenhausen, previously part of the Aichach regional court, will have its own regional court.
Further development
Due to its location on the important road between the imperial cities of Augsburg and Regensburg, Schrobenhausen was often affected by military armies, for example in the Schmalkaldic War in 1546, when tens of thousands of mercenaries roamed the area. During the Thirty Years' War in 1632 and 1633 the area was in the front line between the Swedish army and the imperial army of General Wallenstein for several months . Most recently, in 1799, during the Second Coalition War, the remnants of a Russian army under Alexander Suworow passed through Schrobenhausen.
Schrobenhausen came in the reclassification of the Kingdom of Bavaria by county in 1808 for Lech Circle , 1810 Isar District , 1817 to Oberdonau circle and in 1837 finally to Upper Bavaria. Paper and metal processing companies were established in Schrobenhausen in the second half of the 19th century. On March 1, 1868, the Schrobenhausen credit association was founded. After 1945, the immigration of expellees from the east of Germany brought a further surge in growth. On July 1, 1972, the new district of Neuburg an der Donau was created, which was named District Neuburg-Schrobenhausen on May 1, 1973 , out of the majority of the previous districts of Neuburg an der Donau and Schrobenhausen . The first district administrator in this district was Walter Asam from Schrobenhausen from 1972 to 1984.
The city of Schrobenhausen developed into a medium-sized center in the Bavarian planning region 10. The proximity to Munich Airport (60 km), the connection via the federal highway 300 to the Munich - Stuttgart motorways (Dasing connection, 26 km) or Munich - Nuremberg (Langenbruck connection , 27 km) and the very good infrastructure of the city made a positive development possible in the past few years, so that the city has become an interesting location for companies. After the headquarters of BAUER AG with the numerous subsidiaries are constantly being expanded, but also new companies - for example Franz Sauermann GmbH and especially MBDA Deutschland GmbH with approx. 1,300 employees - create jobs in Paarstadt, the local unemployment rate is very low.
Incorporations
On January 1, 1971, the previously independent municipality of Steingriff was incorporated. On January 1, 1972, Sandizell was added. Hörzhausen followed on July 1, 1972. With Mühlried, which Edelshausen was awarded with effect from January 1, 1972, the series of incorporations was completed in 1978.
Outsourcing
On January 1, 1974, a sub-area with a little more than 200 inhabitants was ceded to Klingsmoos .
Population development
Between 1988 and 2018 the city grew from 14,669 to 17,106 by 2,437 inhabitants or 16.6%.

In addition, the separately elected First Mayor has a seat and vote on the council. From the ranks of the city council, the second mayor is Georg Berger (proSob) and the third is Andy Vogl (CSU). As a result of the change in city council member Dieter Kreisle (DU) announced in June 2020, the CSU now has 7 city council seats, the DU one.
Town twinning
Schrobenhausen and Thiers have been twin towns in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region (France) since 1986 . Other cities were Perg in Upper Austria in 1989 and the English city of Bridgnorth in Shropshire in 1992 . A sponsorship relationship has existed with the city of Schwetzingen in Baden-Württemberg since April 2016. In view of the common bond with asparagus, this was expanded into a partnership relationship in 2018 and 2019 by signing corresponding documents.

Explanation: The sovereignty of the Bavarian dukes is symbolized by the silver-blue diamonds, although the meaning of the bear's head remains unclear. It can be found in the triangular shield in the oldest seal, first documented in 1328, but it was probably created as early as the end of the 13th century. The bear snout is reminiscent of a bird's beak on the seals from the 14th and 15th centuries, and the tinging has variants (silver field above, golden bear crown). In 1447 Schrobenhausen received city rights.

An old traditional company is the Mint Carl Poellath , for which u. a. the well-known Saxon medalist Friedrich Wilhelm Hörnlein ( signature mostly FH) from 1905 until his appointment in 1911 as a coin engraver at the Kgl. Saxon State Mint Muldenhütten near Freiberg Embossing stamp for the medals and plaques that are in great demand today .
asparagus
The Schrobenhausener Land forms the center of asparagus cultivation in Bavaria and is one of the most famous asparagus growing areas in all of Germany. "Schrobenhausen asparagus" is a protected European trademark. The city of Schrobenhausen is home to the European Asparagus Museum . Tourism plays a very important role, especially in the asparagus season. Every year, thousands of asparagus friends from all over the world visit the Schrobenhausen region during asparagus season. The season runs from mid-April to June 24th, " St. John's Day ", when asparagus is traditionally cut for the last time. There are around 600 asparagus farmers in the area around the small town. In 1913 Christian Schadt from Groß-Gerau planted the precious vegetables in the sandy Paar floodplains for the first time. Today's growing area covers around 600 hectares .

Churches
The parish church of St. Jakob is a late Gothic hall church. Its construction began in 1404. In 1420 the church was consecrated; In 1491, the construction was temporarily completed with the vaulting. In the 19th century the church got a neo-Gothic interior. During a restoration between 1978 and 1983, the neo-Gothic additions were removed and the late-Gothic character of the church restored. There are medieval frescoes on the walls to the left of the altar.
The Frauenkirche is also a late Gothic building that was started in 1404. The interior of the church is baroque. In the 19th century the church received a neo-Romanesque interior design and painting. Both were removed in 1964 in favor of the baroque design.

BFF Ficton
The Federal Film Festival Fiction of the BDFA has been held annually in Schrobenhausen since 2013. Fictional short films are shown and judged by a jury. The BFF will pass on films directly to the German Film Festival (DAFF) 2020 of the BDFA through a selection committee (which consists of parts of the festival jury).
Literary Summer Academy Schrobenhausen
Since 2008, the literary summer academy Schrobenhausen ( LISA ) has taken place every year at the end of July and beginning of August . Here, authors teach writing enthusiasts from all over the German-speaking area. Ursula Krechel , Friederike Kretzen , Ulla Lenze , Norbert Niemann and many others were or are active as lecturers. In addition to intensive text work for beginners and advanced learners, LISA offers a supporting program with readings, discussions and music. The literary summer academy is an event of the city of Schrobenhausen in cooperation with the Association of German Writers in Bavaria and with the support of the Bavarian State Ministry for Science and Art. Head of LISA is Arwed Vogel .
Baroque Weeks Schrobenhausen
Since 2008, the "Schrobenhausen Baroque Weeks" have been taking place every year under the artistic direction of the viol player Jakob David Rattinger, with the main performances at the beginning of September in the form of individual concerts, workshops, concert concerts, operas and baroque theaters. The concerts and performances dedicated to baroque music and performed on appropriate instruments are funded by the state of Bavaria and numerous sponsors. The baroque festival attracts visitors from home and abroad every year. Performances by the artists also take place in Schleissheim Palace near Munich and in Wasserburg am Inn. Shooting sports
Shooting has a particularly old tradition in Schrobenhausen, which is closely linked to the history of the city. The royally privileged fire rifle association Schrobenhausen, founded in 1335, plays a special role in this respect. 35 other clubs are also organized in the Schrobenhausen Sports Schützengau. Seven of these clubs are based in the city of Schrobenhausen.
