The 1966/67 season of the ice hockey Bundesliga was the ninth season of the Bundesliga , the highest German ice hockey league . The German champions became the Düsseldorfer EG , which only two years after the promotion was the first West German team to win the championship in 15 years and thus ended the dominance of the Bavarian teams for the time being. In the relegation games only Preussen Krefeld could hold the class of four Bundesliga clubs , the former champions SC Riessersee as well as the ESV Kaufbeuren and record champions Berliner SC had to go to the top division . They were replaced by FC Bayern Munich , SG Oberstdorf / Sonthofen and VfL Bad Nauheim .

In order to reduce the high travel costs to the away games, the Bundesliga was divided into two seasons for the 1966/67 season, which initially played a double round. The five Bavarian clubs were assigned to the South group, the teams from West and Southwest Germany and Berlin played in the West group . After that, the top three teams in each group qualified for the Bundesliga finals, which played off the German champions in a single round. The fourth and fifth placed in each group had to go into relegation, while the southern clubs faced the three best placed in the Oberliga Süd, the western clubs on the three best placed in the Oberliga Nord. The first and second place finishers in each relegation relay qualified for the new Bundesliga season.
The two winners of the relegation rounds then played for the DEV Cup .
