The 1968/69 season of the ice hockey Bundesliga was the eleventh season of the Bundesliga , the highest German ice hockey league . The German champion was EV Füssen , which finished the final with nine points and was thus able to successfully defend its title from the previous year.
In the relegation, the former master Preussen Krefeld could not hold the class and was replaced by the Cologne EK . The ESV Kaufbeuren moved up to the Bundesliga due to the dissolution of the ice hockey department of FC Bayern Munich .
The inaugural German Ice Hockey Cup could EV Landshut win.

Before the season started, the Bundesliga was increased from ten to twelve teams. As a result, the relegated FC Bayern Munich remained in the league and Eintracht Frankfurt also rose. With the increase in the league and the associated rise of the two teams from major German cities, the German Ice Hockey Federation hoped to establish ice hockey in the metropolitan regions, which should mean a further development of the sport.

As in the previous year, the Bundesliga was initially played in two seasons, the Bundesliga West and the Bundesliga South . The best three teams after a single round then played the German champions in a single-track double round. The three last-placed clubs played in a regionally divided relegation round against the three best teams in the Oberliga North and South for their place in the Bundesliga.
The previous DEV Cup of the two winners of the relegation groups was canceled.
