Franklin County is a county in the state of Tennessee in the United States . The county seat is Winchester .

The county is located in southern Tennessee, bordering Alabama and has an area of ​​1,491 square kilometers, of which 55 square kilometers are water. It is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Coffee County , Grundy County , Marion County , Jackson County, Alabama, Lincoln County, and Moore Counties .

history

Franklin County was formed on December 3, 1807 from parts of Bedford County and Warren County. It was named after Benjamin Franklin , a founding father and signatory of the United States' Declaration of Independence .
