↑ 3rd league 2019/20 |
The 2019/20 season of the Regionalliga Südwest was the twelfth season of the regional football league as the fourth-highest division in Germany. It was opened on July 26, 2019 with the game of FK Pirmasens against 1. FC Saarbrücken and should end on May 24, 2020. From December 9, 2019 to February 15, 2020, the season was interrupted by the winter break, after completing the last games on March 9, 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic . On May 26, 2020, the organizing associations announced the final end of the season.
Season course
In a three-way battle with SV Elversberg 07 and TSV Steinbach Haiger for the lead, the multiple relegation participant 1. FC Saarbrücken has been in first place without interruption since the 3rd match day. After the 15th round, the team was able to celebrate the autumn championship prematurely .
Newcomer Rot-Weiß Koblenz , who had been in last place since the 6th match day, did not achieve a single victory in the entire first half of the season, only four points were scored, and only one point was added until the season was broken off.
On March 13, 2020, the SWFV announced that it would initially suspend match operations in the Regionalliga Südwest due to the COVID-19 pandemic in Germany up to and including March 31. Subsequently, the DFB announced the final decision of the 21 regional associations to interrupt play from the regional league downwards until further notice.
The season was finally canceled on May 26th. Since not every participant had the same number of completed games, the quotient rule was applied on the basis of the last known table constellation (points average per completed game). As a result, 1. FC Saarbrücken was crowned champion and announced as a promoter to the 3rd league for the 2020/21 season . In addition, no team had to relegate, but for the next season , as before, four promoted teams from the subordinate upper leagues should complete the field of participants.
