The Italian national football team at the 1978 World Cup in Argentina :

qualification

Italy could only qualify for this World Cup because of the better goal difference compared to England with equal points. Both games against England ended with 2-0 wins for the respective home team. England had to watch a World Cup tournament for the second time in a row.
